RAFI launches stronger community identity and branding

Wanting to have a stronger community presence, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) is proud to launch its official branding to communication partners.

A luncheon was organized at the Salon de Madrid of Casino Espanol de Cebu last January 25, 2011. It was not just an affair to inform the public of RAFI's refreshed brand identity but as well as to thank those who supported their community development initiatives.

Why do a branding project?
Mr. Bobby Aboitiz tells us as RAFI has "built a good reputation in the region and it's time to upscale [their] core initiatives." Operating for over more than four decades and touching millions of lives along the way, I think it is timely that they revisited their core principles.

People needed a "unified understanding of who we are," he adds.

"It's not about we look externally," Ms. Dominic Chua, COO of RAFI, says emphasizing this branding project that took them a year and a half to conceptualize, is about…

My Blastin 2010

The year 2010 is the Year of the Jaysee Blabs.

I got addicted to the Sims 3 and decided to blog about this great home which more or less depicted my dream home, something that faces the sea and something that is contemporary.Sinulog 2010 was something I could never forget since it was my third year to dance at the mardi gras. Our school, AMA Computer College has started to offer ‘sayaw halad’ for the biggest festivity in the country as a sign of gratitude and I didn’t have a choice but I never regretted the experience.I then campaigned so hard for Gibo that this blog became a dedicated magazine with posts like Why Vote for Gibo? And I also decided to create a Youtube video to create a music video of his campaign jingle “Lipad” by Rivermaya. I used Sims 2’s game movies to craft the awesome vid.It is also the year for me to have my design printed for an event and it was for my nephew-son’s birthday. Miggy turned 5 and I designed his tarp and cards. This year also launched my freelance ca…

Pulpy awesome goodness!

I just drank a bottle of Minute Maid Pulpy. They say it’s got ‘no preservatives added’. Aw, c’mon…It’s bottled juice. Is that even possible? So I thought maybe... if I try to gulp down just one bottle what difference would it make? Twas then I realized that it had to be the greatest orange juice I ever had. The flavor was not too overpowering and it is thirst quenching at best!

I didn’t believe it the first time I heard it’s got no preservatives added. So I read the ingredients (even the fine print) and everything checked out! It really has NO PRESERVATIVES ADDED! That means it doesn’t have ingredients that may turn out to be allergens, or worse...carcinogens! Whew! Now that’s healthy goodness that tastes so good, I... will be recommending this to all readers of my blog to grab a bottle and give yourself some love by nourishing with a healthy drink to match a healthy lifestyle because surely we can never put a price tag on overall wellness.

So okay, it’s got no preservatives added. Th…

Great place for a Sinulog souvenir | Smile and Shoot - The Bloggers' Sinulog 2011 Photo Booth

We all love our photos taken and why not make this year’s Sinulog celebration a lot more fun by having your photo at the Blogger’s Sinulog Photo Booth

That is why it gives me so much honor to design the photowall to be used for the booth. The design process was a collaboration with the members of the org and the design concept is loosely based on the theme of the festivity with a hint of what game I loved playing on my PSP. Some member blogs chose to participate on the activity by asking us to post their URLs alongside yours truly,

A lot of technical problems may have come my way but there is no stopping your awesome graphic artist from doing his job well. Pak!

See you there on January 16, 2011!

This is a Sinulog celebration activity of the Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. in cooperation with Oh! Bern Internet Cafe & Snack Bar and 123SMAYL Photo Booth.

This photo booth will be operating from 8am to 6pm that day and is located at the front area of Oh! Bern Internet Caf…

Ayala Activity Center Cebu was turned into a virtual home as top lifestyle consumer company Philips ‘Celebrates Life’ last January 7 to 9. The showcase gave life to how Philips products are used and applied at home.

From wanting to deviate from selling just mere technologies to become a company that sells solutions and upgrades to our daily living, this campaign of Philips makes sense at best.

From top of the line audio-video and multimedia products to domestic appliances and gadgets, shoppers were treated to awesome experience just in time for when Cebu has been heating up with the Sinulog fever.

“Given the Cebuano’s changing lifestyle of spending more time at home with the family, we believe that Philips is the perfect partner to “Celebrate Life” by making sure of the quality of time spent with our dear ones.

Why ceiling fans?

Everyone wants to live in a house that is comfortable and breathable. To achieve that effect, interior designers and basically all homeowners have tried to create a living space that is equipped with cooling equipment such as air conditioners or ceiling fans. But due to the rising cost of electricity today, many people opt to utilize the powers of the a ceiling fan which is not to be underestimated since you can make your family and guests feel comfortable just the same depending on the unit’s power and the amount of people to be aired.

For a great Karaoke experience

Here in the Philippines, Karaoke has always been the number 1 activity since God knows when. I think the sales of this music equipment speak for itself. From MagicSings to manual Karaoke machines in nearby stores, you could never fail to notice them in any town you get lost into. Now the posh karaoke bars all over the metropolitan has become a lucrative business.

I could always remember that during my early childhood how the family of either sides of the family would cuddle up in the living rooms during occasions to fire up the karaoke player to sing along the songs of the Carpenters, Englebert and Abba.

But there are some things about these songs for karaoke that makes them relatable to anyone who sings them. I was only able to realize it when I grew up to sing and participate in karaoke sessions with family in friends at home or in karaoke bars. It is always the pleasure of singing your favorite songs or listening to your peers having a great time that makes it one of the best past …

Aboitiz Leaders of Excellence Shoebox project sends a million smiles

A sad thing to note about Christmas is that it turns people to become materialistic. People have to receive gifts of high value which is emanated from wish lists and exchanging gifts with standard value which I am not perfectly against, since I myself had entered a LOT of gift giving affairs this Christmas.
So why not turn that giving feeling into something that could make more people smile?

That’s what our friends from Aboitiz Leaders of Excellence thought so when they organized the ALEx Christmas Shoebox. Early December, they were asking the public and program partners to find an empty shoebox and fill it with non perishable gifts such as toys, clothes and toiletries with an option to include a letter to its potential recipient. They labeled the boxes for children and for elderly.

And by December 22, 2010, they set up a caravan to Cebu’s south provinces and were able to make some 800 people have something to smile about this Christmas.

The Christmas shoebox project was officially call…

We had Knowledge Café, Fellowship Night and the Drafting of the Youth Declaration. To know what they are read on.
Our next great experience at the Congress was the Knowledge Café where we tackled different issues in the society and what we have done or doing, what we envision our youth would be and what we intend to do to realize that.
I am so proud of our group, the Royal Blue and how our discussions had led to very productive output while at the same time interesting enough all through out the day. The beautiful chapel areas where divided into stations that has a designated ALEx member who will convene us into discussing a specific area o…

RAFI stages a great museum belen

The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) showed to the public a great nativity scene at the Casa Gorordo Museum in Cebu City last December 15. It featured an antique figurine collection that depicts not just the birth of Christ but as well as the Annunciation and the Finding of Jesus in the Temple. The set up marks the 27th anniversary of the museum’s opening. It is open until January so you better check it out.The belen originates as a Spanish word for Bethlehem. It is a 3D art depiction of the nativity of Jesus Christ. The Casa Gorordo Museum is a 19th Century residence of the first Cebuano Bishop Juan Garces Gorordo. When RAFI obtained the Casa Gorordo, they continued the house traditions of the Gorordo family not just the setting up of the belen but the original Sinug dance, Semana Santa and Pista ni San Juan among others. photo by RAFI [Msgr. Cris Garcia blessed and opened the belen at the Casa Gorordo Museum.]

My trip to Ilo-ilo in a nutshell

Minutes before my departure from Cebu last November 27, 2010 , I coincidentally met my mom in the office, Cristina and we talked a lot and had our picture taken by her boyfriend.

(c) Carlo LedWhat made the plane ride enjoyable, even if I didn’t have a window seat, was that it was swaying a lot. I arrived at Ilo-ilo International Airport around 4PM and headed immediately to SM City Ilo-ilo.   After attending the Visayas Blogging Summit in Cinema 2, we checked in at Days Hotel fronting Gen. Luna Street.

My first Tibiao Fish Spa experience at SM Ilo-ilo!

I think the most neglected and most hardworking part of my body would have to be my feet. So it comes as a delight when Tibiao Fish Spa invited us for an invigorating and unique spa experience on my third and last day in Ilo-ilo last November 29, 2010.

When I entered their shop at the Lower Ground Floor in SM City Ilo-ilo, I was so excited to know what a fish spa feels and looks like. They assisted me with keeping my things as I washed my feet in the designated area. The staff was very attentive and courteous that you’ll feel right at home.
I soon found myself sitting on the indoor pools but became too afraid to even submerge my feet. I looked around and saw them laughing at my cowardly face. It even surprised me that I became hesitant and I involuntarily lifted my feet once these little fishes came to me and tried to nibble on my foot. I was laughing uncontrollably because it tickles a lot and I was acting stupid. Can you imagine me getting afraid while this girl was braver than I was…

Cebu bloggers make families smile this Christmas

Have you noticed how life is not meant to be fair? Why some have so much and others have little or none at all? We may not understand His ways fully but at some point we have to realize that things happen so that people would continue to need each other and we will not forget our social responsibility.

Cebu Bloggers Society Inc. (CBSi), one of the most respected blogging institutions in the country, has not forgotten to extend the holiday happiness to our brothers and sisters who had been devastated by the recent fire outrage in Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City. I am so proud of my fellow members who made this happen as we all know how hard it is to lose not only your home but a lifetime’s worth of material necessities.

Our organization held a CBSi Caroling and Gift Giving Event last December 19, 2010. Around fifty families where invited to the event with the help from the DSWD. In the barangay’s basketball court, a great Cebu band, Bethany, serenaded the families with some holiday cheer. Chri…
