New Museums Open in Cebu for Gabii sa Kabilin

In preparation for the biggest Gabii sa Kabilin yet, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) has pooled together online publishers to write about the new museums in Cebu that is opening this year for the long night of museums eventorganized by the institution as part of their Culture and Heritage focus area.

It was a a very bright May 14, 2011 when we drove all around the metro learning more of the place we thought we knew enough in elementary school. We went to three new museums that will formally open weeks after. In fact, they weren't that organized yet which made us lucky because we got the first ever glance on the places before the public barges in.

It was really refreshing to see a lot of things and know the story of what makes Cebu what it is today. This New Museums Tour organized by RAFI definitely made me excited for the upcoming Gabii sa Kabilin event which will feature around 19 museums on May 27, 2011.

Our first stop was at the Cebu Normal University (CNU) Museum whic…

Designing awesome homepages in Photoshop

Hey there! I'm back with a brand new post about Photoshop and Web Design but then again it is not as comprehensive as you expect it to be since there are millions more tutorials online that you can read through. But anyway, I'm going to share how to design awesome homepages and for this case study we are going to design real estate page of some sort and I have taken the liberty to name the project after my family name because I just have this penchant for our country home.

Online Universities and Whatnots

We live in the age of modernization and we have a lot of choices when it comes to education. Here in our country we have Associate Degrees and Technical Courses while an emerging educational system is yet to prosper and I am talking about Online Universities. The closest I could get to one is when we finished the Cisco CCNA Networking Online Course. What makes it amazing as it is tied up with our Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology curriculum is the fact that it is done online. All the resource materials and the examinations are done on the cloud and at our convenience.

I wish I should have taken full advantage of this educational system by enrolling on online degree programs in web designs and I could've saved myself and my family a lot of money from enrolling in an actual university. But then again, the experience wouldn't as much greater but for those who are thinking practically and living frugally, this option is definitely worth thinking about. If you are a U…

The Speech: The Last Chapter Part 4/4

On a serious note…

There will come a time that God will break everything you hold so dear.

I just hope that when that time comes to you, you wouldn’t hate Him as much as I did because the only way for you to overcome, is to trust Him.

It is so easy to say that we should look on the brighter side of things and that He has a plan and that tomorrow would be a better day.

We may have storms in our life but the fact that it doesn’t rain the rest of the year is very comforting to know.

His plans may seem very random to us mere mortals, but He has his reasons. Great ones.

I’m afraid that I may not be in the position to impose optimism since I myself easily gets entangled in depression every once in a while.

But what’s great about me is the ability to leave baggage at the door because we should only open the right boxes at the right time.

We have lives to pursue and feelings should just come second.

Bruno Mars actually had a song that I constantly remind myself when all else breaks down right…

Cebu media officially assembles to fight malnutrition | 1st MIND 7 General Assembly

Finding champions to educate and promote proper nutrition in the country, MIND 7 was conceived through the efforts of the National Nutritional Council (NNC) Region 7.

Our government has acknowledged the need for the media sector to empower their efforts in fighting the biggest wars we have been facing, poverty and malnutrition because a healthy nation is wealthy in many ways.

And what better way to realize that vision than through gathering top stakeholders from every media organization to easily disseminate and organize different efforts to address these issues.

MIND 7 has come a long way from the first meeting we had.

MIND 7 actually stands for Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development for Region 7.

The first meeting conceived was in Crown Regency where PIOs, journalists and media practioners including yours truly graced the first Consultative Meeting in finding out ways on how we can fight poverty through showcasing community health practices.

Use Gold IRA now

This is an important message to US citizens. With the US economy growing uncertain, investors have turned to use physical “gold IRA” as replacement for individual retirement arrangement or also known as IRA. It is even used to replace a type of retirement savings account called 401(k).

Why are more people using IRA gold? It is the purest form of money. No form of government can devalue it. That’s why gold has remained active in all history as it even preserves investors’ purchasing power over thousands to come and will continue to preserve your gold IRA. Investors are also turning to a more stable profitable platform which are “gold 401k” since some trends weaken stocks such as war, high oil and gas prices. Other paper investments and usually cause the price of gold in gold IRA's to rise are weakness of the US dollar and budget deficits.

The Speech: How I Got My First Paid Job Part 3/4

Most of us will start venturing to the world of work while the rest of us have already battled our way in.

Before WebXPress, before MICS department, let me share a short tale of how I got my first job.

During our first year college, I was awarded as a President's Lister and pride got into me as I got the highest academic recognition ever. So I asked my dad to buy me a PSP as a reward but he turned me down because he could not afford it. I got so mad that I tried to look for a job to buy one for myself. Then I ended up at a call center in Lapu-lapu City because they were offering part time jobs back then. And Lapu-lapu is like a million kilometers away from where I live. Up till now, I still can't figure out how I managed to survive all those time.

But anyway, I got accepted and they managed my working schedule to complement my school's. Every day I worked for five grueling hours on the phone dealing with different people and switching from one project to another almost imm…

The Speech: Recounting Happy Memories Part 2/4

Going deeper into the memory lane, who wouldn’t forget the four years of Sinulog? You see we have this thing of offering dance presentations at the Mardi Gras and rambling about it would take the whole day so I’m just gonna leave it at that.

Don’t you also remember
we had this SBO tribute day where I didn’t dance,
mangrove planting in Lapu-lapu,
the fun Buwan ng Wika with ACLC,
then guarding different precincts during the GMA-AMA Quick Count Election coverage,
DOLE seminar at CDU,
our retreats in Verbum Dei and Don Bosco,
our educational tour all over Cebu’s top workplaces,
and dancing with our nanays and tatays in Barili,
our acquaintance parties in Crown Regency and Stakili,
our intramurals culminations in Portofino
and the one in Villa Teresita where I didn’t dance again?
It was a whole lotta fun.

I’d also like to take to congratulate my fellow scholars under RAFI’s Young Minds Academy program especially to Rhecel, Lorbe, Irish and to my cousin Babykit, for being such wo…

Rockin' Firefox 4 Cebu Party

Techies have converged at the Techbar IT Park last March 22, 2011 in a party organized by Evanjohnn Mendoza and Ruffy Heredia. We were celebrating the release of the latest version of probably one of the best innovations of man, Firefox 4.

Not only was there a presentation of how far this browser, we've all come to love, has gone through, but as well as playing our way to grab cool Firefox goodies. Yep, we played a lot of games alright. Budding web developers and members of the Cebu Bloggers Society Inc. (CBSi) got invited to the event and it was a great way to meet friends again and I even got the chance to meet my high school friend, Josephus and caught up with the latest of our buddies way back when.

Aside from being the fastest browser there is, boasting of performance that's six times faster than the previous release, it is optimized to give you the best web experience with hardware accelerated graphics. For the interface, there's the notable app tabs and the Panoram…

Graduating Bachelor of Science in Information Technology last May 5, 2011, I was given the privilege to deliver the Valedictory Address for our batch in AMA Cebu. It was one of the happiest moments of my life and I also commend the efforts of our school admin, faculty, staff and Radisson Blu for making our graduation amazing in a lot of ways. There is this one day of the year where Moms, Moms at heart and Guys doing mommy duties gets to be remembered for all the things that had make them exist and happy in the first place. That is why I was so overwhelmed with so much joy when my sis read to me a Facebook note she created yesterday to honor our Mimi/ Mommy/ Mimz/ Joce. After she read it, I felt it is something that the whole world deserves to know and with her permission here it is:

SHE SHALL RULE THE STREETS TOMORROW! by Tisha Shayne Pingkian on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 9:27am

She was never my bestest bestfriend. We always argue in terms of fashion. I hated her make-up and she hated my lipstick. I don't like her choice of scents and she disliked my hair color. I wish I were deaf when she started cursing and she wished she was blind when I go out on a date. But all of these were buried in the past. Things started to change 7 years ago when she learned that she was going to be a grandmother.

We really never get to share l…

Puma Social blasts Cebu gamers

Puma Social is a marketing campaign of one of the biggest sports gear brand today which has been launched in the US a few months back and now has invaded Cebu shores. Puma is actually celebrating the people who spend time to socialize after a long day's work by creating a series of events all over the world at bars and malls and giving away rewards to top performing athletes of the night.

Here is the promotional video of the Puma Social global event:

Here in Cebu, they held the Puma Social event at the Ayala Activity Center last April 30, 2011 and challenged its valued customers to a game of foos-ball and ping pong. Everyone regardless of age were invited to play if they purchased a Puma shirt or a jacket.

The winners for both after hours sports were awarded with a P10,000 Puma gift certificates. The final rounds were held the next day May 1, 2011…

Olympus launches world's greatest tough cams in Cebu

The world's most innovative big player in lens making and imaging technology has once again beaten themselves by launching tough cameras that could withstand the harshest weather conditions and the greatest user mishandling.

Olympus Tough Summerevent, held in cooperation with Cebu's biggest resorts, took advantage of the local and foreign tourists who are heading to the beach to launch there tough cams. It was held at the Imperial Resort and Spa last April 23, 2011 and at the Maribago Blue Water Resort last April 24, Easter Sunday. Resort guests were able to try the underwater capabilities of the three camera models of the Olympus Tough Series and some other great features like shockproof, crushproof and even freezeproof.

I was literally shocked when Mr. Alex Bonilla, Olympus Product Manager, literally stepped on the Olympus TG 805 right in front of fellow tech bloggers and the media at the press launch held at Maribago Blue Water Resort.

We even got the chance to interact with…
